Food and Medical Supplies for Children in Nigeria

Food and medical supplies are the most basic help SAAK provides to orphaned and underprivileged children in Nigeria.

SAAK works through local partners to get food, medical supplies, clothing and school materials directly to orphaned and underprivileged children.

What we send

Food

Nutrition is the most immediate need. SAAK sources and distributes food to children’s homes and community partners in Nigeria.

Medical supplies

Basic medical supplies are scarce and expensive where our partners work. SAAK sources donated medical goods and gets them where they are needed.

Clothing and school materials

Children cannot attend school without clothing and basic supplies. SAAK provides both.

How it reaches children

SAAK does not run parallel operations on the ground. We work through established local partners in Nigeria who already know the children, already run the homes, and can tell us exactly what is needed. That keeps overhead low and puts goods where they do the most good.

Support this work

Every gift goes toward sourcing and delivering food, medical supplies, clothing and educational materials to children who need them.

Food and Medical Supplies Over the Years

Food and medical supplies have been at the center of SAAK’s work since we first met the children at Heaven’s Nest in 2010. In 2016 we held food distributions there, and in 2018 our largest distribution so far brought food, clothing, medical supplies and educational materials to orphanage homes across Nigeria. In January 2024 our winter food drive provided meals and clean water to dozens of children.

What food and medical supplies cost

About $8 feeds one child at Heaven’s Nest for a day, so $24 feeds a child for 3 days, $56 for a week, $120 for 15 days and $240 for a month. You can give toward food and medical supplies once or every month on our Support Us Now page.

Clothing and school materials too

Alongside food and medical supplies, SAAK provides clothing and school materials. Our board-adopted mission is to improve the lives of orphaned and underprivileged children in Africa, primarily Nigeria, through partnerships with local orphanages, schools and non-governmental organizations.

Who receives food and medical supplies

Our primary partner, Heaven’s Nest, cares for children who are orphaned or abandoned, and many of them live with severe physical and cognitive disabilities. That makes reliable food and medical supplies especially important.

Trust and transparency

JEB Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 45-5431445), gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law, and SAAK’s officers serve without pay. Our public filings are available on ProPublica’s Nonprofit Explorer. Watch our work in video to see deliveries in Nigeria.

A short history of our care

Food and supplies have been at the center of our work from the start. Here is a short look back:

  • 2010: our founder and his family found the children of Heaven’s Nest orphanage in Nigeria living on bare floors in dark, unfinished rooms.
  • 2012: SAAK was incorporated as the public face of JEB Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
  • 2016: new bunk beds with mattresses for Heaven’s Nest, plus food distributions for the children.
  • 2018: our largest distribution so far, with food, clothing, medical supplies and school materials for hundreds of children at orphanage homes across Nigeria.
  • 2021: a new school for the children of Heaven’s Nest, built with our partner JEB FOODS.
  • November 2023: mentoring and life skills programs with local partners in Nigeria.
  • January 2024: a winter food drive that brought nutritious meals and clean water to dozens of orphaned children.

JEB FOODS, a specialty food company, donates 10% of its profits to JEB Foundation and helped fund the 2021 school build at Heaven’s Nest.
